About Us
Community
West Pelzer has a rich history as a healthy place to live, work, and play. We celebrate where we were, where we are currently, and where we are going. West Pelzer is forever being revitalized, rejuvenated, and re-energized through new businesses and growth of our core values and vision.
Regional
West Pelzer has a population of approximately 969, and is located roughly 30 minutes away from many major cities – including Greenville, Anderson, and Easley – in the heart of upstate South Carolina. As a progressive municipality based on building relationships and community, we strive to be an integral part of both our residents’ lives and Anderson County as a whole. Being situated so closely to interstates 85 and 385 also allows for easy access to many larger key interstates, such as I-20, I-40, and I-26.
Our History
We Are West Pelzer
We were born from the idea that each person can make their mark. South Carolina's upcountry in 1913 was a place where the region was dotted with company towns run by textile moguls including nearby Pelzer. Enterprising surveyor John Franks envisioned a town built around independent enterprise, well designed streets, and a place the revolved around community rather than company policy.
By 1918, Frankville was renamed West Pelzer and was evolving into a place where church congregations, schools, small businesses, and home built by residents were thriving along the streets platted by John Franks. The setting for West `Pelzer was prime. The rolling South Carolina hills and the waters of the Saluda River proved to be the perfect setting for this modern community. West Pelzer emerged as a regional crossroads during an era before interstate highways and remains so to this day.
By the early 2000's, West Pelzer began an intentional effort to harness the spirit of its founder. "Go West!" rallied owners to open shops, restaurants, and services in downtown. Community leaders nurture plans to create parks and trails for citizens. The community looks to the banks of the Saluda River for future connections.
Through these changes though, West Pelzer remains true to family, faith, and friendships. We are a place where a warm hug, a firm handshake, and welcoming smile say "let's be frank" in a way that honors our founder.
We are West Pelzer, South Carolina. Proudly Frank!
