For The Birds

Are you "For the Birds"? That is, do you like birds? Do you enjoy seeing them and hearing their melodic songs and calls, admiring their beautiful shades of color, and just having them around to the point that you feed them and provide water for drinking and bathing? Well, if you do and live in the town of West Pelzer, you are in luck, for by Ordinance, the Town of West Pelzer is a Bird Sanctuary, and by resolution, the month of February is National Bird Feeding Month, hu-ra; I love feeding the birds, kinda, more like watching the birds after my wife feeds them. Enjoy and feed them as a habit year-round.

However, this is another reason I love living in West Pelzer, so let's feed the birds and fatten them up for the hard work of nest-building and mating. They must feed the little newbies and teach the little fledglings to leave the nest and "spread their wings." Lots of work and lots of bird seeds are needed for energy.

Also, in the spirit of being for the birds, West Pelzer is partnering with a group of our seniors, who meet twice a week in the O'Dell Center for fun and fellowship and lunch provided by Meals on Wheels under the faithful leadership of Ms Nanna, they have agreed to paint and decorate a dozen bird houses to be placed in Chapman Park and other town locations, for the Birds.

Another thing with a "For the Birds twist": West Pelzer's newest business, "Birdies On Main," at 19B Main Street. The owner, Ms. Tracy Stewart, told me one of the significant factors in her decision to bring her business to West Pelzer is that we are a Bird Sanctuary.

Happy bird watching and feeding to all who are "For The Birds"!
